First Voyage
Here is my journal of our first trip on Our Tern: bringing her from Ft Pierce to Key Largo.
ICW = New Smyrna Beach
ICW = New Smyrna Beach

Sometimes when they dredge the InterCoastal Waterway, they pipe the fill out to the coast. Thus "refilling" the beach. Here is a photo of when they did this in New Smyrna Beach earlier this summer. Notice they make a dam outward to slow down the waterflow. Then they rush this water through miles of pipeline. It looks like a giant gardenhose with mud coming out. The water runs off quickly, leaving the fill (sand/dirt). The fill hardens enough to drive on in just a day or two. You can see people walking the shore -which was ICW silt just 6 hours before! They move along at about one block per 12hours.
